Procedures for Morning Drop-Off

Our two top priorities at Clarke School are to provide a safe environment and give your child a quality education. This past spring I noticed the drop-off scenario on Norfolk Avenue becoming less and less safe due to many families not following the procedures we have in place. After witnessing many dangerous situations, such as near accidents and collisions, I am asking families to please follow the following secure method of dropping your child off to school. Kindly read the procedures below:

Norfolk Avenue

Entering the drop-off area in front of the school: Cars may enter the drop off area on Norfolk and line up in order of arrival. Please do not park in the cross walk as we have a crossing guard who is assisting students cross the street to get to school.

Exiting the drop-off circle: Drivers must be aware of the fact that this is a live drop- off scenario during which students are exiting cars and crossing the street. Therefore, please be courteous of the flow of this process and the safety of our children.

Preparing to drop-off: If you are dropping off a student at Norfolk Avenue entrance, you must stay in line with your car. Staff members will assist your child
out of the car one at a time. Kindly wait your turn. For safety reasons please try
to have your child seated on the passenger side of the car. We strongly recommend that all students are either wearing a seat belt or in a “booster seat.” Please have your child ready to exit the car. It is important that you are not distracted by talking on your cell phone at this time.

Parking: There is no parking in the drop-off area. It impedes the flow of traffic. Also, please do not block or park in any driveways along the street or in the crosswalks.

Timing of drop-off: Children are expected to be at school by 8:10 A.M. Please remember there is no adult supervision prior to this time. Students should not be dropped off to play on the field prior to the start of school. When families walk their students to school please bring them around to the back of the school where a teacher will be waiting on the hard top to line them up according to class prior to the beginning of school. These students will enter the building through door 5. (The door with the handicap ramp) Kindergarten families are welcome to bring your children into the school for the first week of school only.

Middlesex Avenue

Entering the drop-off circle in front of the school: Cars may enter the drop off circle via Ellis or Hampden Street.  Please do not enter via Middlesex Avenue as this causes unsafe traffic issues and slows our process down substantially.

Exiting the drop-off circle: Drivers must be aware of the fact that this is a live drop-off scenario during which students are exiting cars. Therefore, please be courteous of the flow of this process and the safety of our children. Cars may only exit the drop-off circle via Middlesex Avenue. U-turns will not be allowed.
